I'm a retired engineer. Always liked to draw, paint, build
model-type stuff - hands need to be 'creating' , building, fixing something -
for my own personal desires and, hopefully, sometimes (depending on how it works
out) satisfaction. Never had any art training. Tried lots of media: oils,
watercolor, penci, wood, toothpicks, marble, granite, acrylic - no one is a
favorite - although toothpicks is the most fun; they give
the 3-d part, and the 'building' part; but since model building requires more
time and planning and glueing than paint, oils is my next best favorite
medium.
The photos of the (Boldt) Castle show a project that took 3
years and 30,000 toothpicks. The photo of the intarsia multi-colored design is
made of 10 different, natural color, exotic hardwoods, 3/8 - inch thick,
approximately 360 pieces. |
