Art
has always been a strong influence in my life. Arrangements of
colors, shapes and lines have held a particular fascination for
me. I enjoy drawing and painting and have done so in one form or
another all my life--often for my own pleasure or to entertain and
instruct children during my career as an elementary school teacher.
After
retirement I began to take more and more formal art instruction and it
quickly became a more serious pursuit. I have taken many classes
at the University of Rochester Creative Workshop in the Memorial Art
Gallery, studying with both Steve Carpenter and Fred Lipp. Sari
Gaby, the portrait artist, has also been one of my instructors.
I
like to attempt to capture the effect of light and shadow during
different times of the day and to try to reflect that mood in a
painting. The changing colors of Nature during the
seasons is another favorite subject . Sometimes I put people in
my landscapes. I enjoy painting people going about their daily
activities.
In 2002 I took part in a group show at
the AAUW in Rochester, New York.In 2003 I had a one person showin the
the Episcopal Church Home. At present I am a member of both the
Irondequoit Art Club and Pittsford Art Group. I have exhibited in their
shows and have received both merit and juror’s awards from these groups.
